20 Jun JEP AND WKPP BEAUTIFY FIRE STATIONS IN WEST KINGSTON AND OLD HARBOUR BAY
For the past two decades, JEP and WKPP have been dedicated to community development and sustainability. To this end, Labour Day has been a major and highly anticipated event for both companies and its social impact areas.
This year, the JEP/WKPP Labour Day initiative, which was deemed a success, was executed under the national theme, “Together we can make a change through Dignity, Community and Solidarity”. On May 23, staff, casual workers and volunteers came out in scores to renovate and beautify the York Park and Old Harbour Fire Stations.
Activities at the York Park Fire Station included the painting of exterior walls, perimeter fences, and barracks as well as the tiling of the administrative and information departments. At the Old Harbour Fire Station, JEP representatives painted the exterior walls and offices occupied by the firemen and women, crucial to ensuring a clean and comfortable working environment for them to operate. In addition to revamping the Old Harbour Fire Station, JEP also donated various safety supplies to assist with the station’s safety efforts and quicker response times within the community.
JEP also provided paint to beautify the Old Harbour Bay Fishing Village which was the Labour Day project for the residents in the community. As a result of JEP and WKPP’s efforts, members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (at these stations) are now able to walk into clean, aesthetically appealing offices which will lift morale and provide a sense of pride. This year, the companies jointly spent approximately J$500,000 to purchase the paint, tiles and other items needed to complete the Labour Day projects.
JEP and WKPP’s major Labour Day past projects include works done at the Old Harbour Bay Community Centre; Marlie Mount Infant and Primary, Charles Chin Loy Basic, Blackwood Gardens Basic, and Mel Nathan Basic Schools; the Maxfield Park Children’s Home; Old Harbour Bay Police Station; Denham Town Police Station; Old Harbour Bay Bathing Beach and the Trench Town Fire Station.
