05 May Congrats, Mr. McKenzie!
For Service to Jamaica, Congratulations to JEP and WKPP’s President & CEO, Mr. Wayne McKenzie!
On April 26, 2018, at Jamaica House, Mr. McKenzie received the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for outstanding service in Energy Conservation and Civic Development. Mr. McKenzie’s invaluable service to Jamaica’s energy sector and community development span over 20 years, and he has been the President & CEO of JEP and WKPP for the past 22 years.
Under his stewardship, JEP’s operating asset Doctor Bird Power Station transitioned from being managed by a foreign-owned entity to self-operation in September 2002. In 2006, JEP grew from one 74MW power barge to two power barges adding 50MW of energy to the national grid. Such improvement represented a 67% growth in the Company’s generating capacity.
In addition to his experience in the energy field, Mr. McKenzie is also highly engaged in community development and corporate social responsibility (CSR) and continues to prodigiously invest time and resources geared towards the advancement and sustainability of the West Kingston and Old Harbour Bay communities, through health, environment, education and sporting initiatives.
During his tenure as President & CEO, Mr. McKenzie has also been the lead architect on the financing of WKPP and two refinancing projects for both assets (JEP & WKPP). The most recent refinancing, which was completed in a recording breaking 45 days, resulted in the closing of a syndicated loan worth US$133 million from local banks.
